Rajshahi youth in search of work allegedly tortured to death by BSF

Shawdesh desk:

Parents of an 18-year-old Bangladeshi youth who had crossed into India in search of work alleged that their son was tortured to death by the Indian Border Security Force on September 17.

The body of the victim, Abdur Rahim Masud, was left abandoned along the border for three days and his family first came to learn about his death on Monday.

The victim’s father, Bablu Rahman, a resident of Diyar Manikchak Kamarpara village under Char Ashariadah union in Godagari upazila, was first informed about his son’s death by one of his relatives in India.

The victim’s family also managed to get an Indian policeman to take a picture of the deceased and send it via WahtsApp.

Bablu moved back and forth between BGB camps requesting the Bangladesh Border Guard to take initiative to bring the body back home.

On Tuesday, Bablu submitted an application to the BGB Sonaikandi Camp in this regard.

Char Ashariadah union parishad chairman Ashraful Islam told New Age that he also requested BGB officials to take necessary measures to bring the body.

Contacted, BGB Sonaikandi Camp Nayeb Subeder Sheikh Towhidur Rahman said that he did not remember receiving an application from the victim’s family.

He, however, said that he heard about the incident but the BSF did not inform them about the matter as yet.

According to the victim’s family, the BSF caught Masud while he was trying to enter India through Majardiyar border under Godagari upazila in Rajshahi along with three others on September 17.

Masud was looking for work, the family said. His three companions managed to escape and returned home.
