Uttara girder tragedy: Writ petition seeks Tk 1cr for each deceased’s family

A writ petition has been filed with the High Court seeking its directive to the authorities concerned to pay compensation of Tk 1 crore to each deceased’s family of Uttara girder tragedy in the capital.

Supreme Court lawyers Zakaria Khan filed the writ petition on Wednesday morning.

The bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Ahmed Sohel may hear the writ petition, the petitioner’s lawyer ABM Shahjahan Akand Masum said.

 

He said that a report has been summoned and instructions have been sought regarding what kind of security measures were taken in the development project of BRT.

Earlier on Tuesday,  three lawyers drew attention of the High Court to the Uttara girder tragedy, the HC suggested that they should file a writ petition in connection with the incident.

The tragic incident happened at Uttara at about 4:20pm on Monday, leaving five persons, including two children, dead on the spot and two others injured.

The deceased were identified as Rubel, 60, Fahima, 40, her sister Jhorna, 28, and Jhorna’s two children Jannat, 6, and Jakaria, 2.

A newlywed couple traveling in the same car fortunately survived the fatal incident.

A case was filed against China Gazhuba Group Corporation (CGGC) and others with Uttara West Police Station on Monday night in connection with the incident.
