Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council on Monday temporarily expelled Preo Bala Biswas, also known as Priya Saha, who was their organising secretary, from all organisational responsibilities for breaching discipline of the parishad.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the standing committee of the parishad held at its central office in the city, said a press release.

Meanwhile, leaders of Hindu, Buddha and Christian Religious Welfare Trust on Monday demanded steps against NGO official Preo Bala Biswas for her complaint to the US president Donald Trump during a meeting at the latter’s office in Washington DC.

Demanding steps against Preo Bala Biswas, the three   trusts held a joint press conference at the National Press Club. Hindu Religious Welfare Trust vice chairman Subrata Pal said that Preo Bala had mentioned false, baseless and motivated figures about disappearances of religious minorities from Bangladesh to the US president and in turn humiliated the image of Bangladesh as well as religious minority communities.

He demanded proper investigation and necessary steps against the lady.

Buddhist Religious Welfare Trust vice president Supta Barua, Christian Religious Welfare Trust secretary Nirmal Rozario and others attended the press conference.

Besides, addressing a press conference at his secretariat office, Awami League general secretary and road transport and bridges minister Obaidul Quader on Monday said that Preo Bala would be interrogated after she came back home though the government would not take any move to bring her back.

He said that the information she conveyed to the US president was imaginary and intentional.

‘The government will deal with the issue at a slow pace as there is no need for using a cannon to kill the mosquito,’ he added.

Earlier on Sunday, the AL general secretary said that the prime minister Sheikh Hasina had told him in a message that no hasty step should be taken against Preo Bala.

In a statement, ADAB, a coordinating body of the development agencies in Bangladesh, expressed its concern over Preo Bala’s remark.

The organisation termed Preo Bala’s remark as an indecent one.

Preo Bala, executive director of the NGO Self-Help Association for Rural People through Education and Entrepreneurship, or SHAREE, met the US president at the latter’s office in Washington DC on July 17 during a global forum.
