Liton out of rest of Zimbabwe series

Sports Desk:

Bangladesh opener Liton Das was ruled out of the rest of the one-day international series against Zimbabwe following a hamstring injury which can keep him out of action for up to three weeks, said Bangladesh Cricket Board in a press release on Friday.

Liton, who made an unbeaten 81, had to retire hurt and leave the field in the 34th over during the first ODI at Harare on Friday which the Tigers lost by five wickets.

The southpaw underwent a scan during the game which revealed a muscle strain.

‘Opener Liton Das suffered an injury to his hamstring while batting today [Friday] and we sent him out for a scan during the match. The scan revealed a grade two muscle strain,’ Bangladesh’s physio Muzadded Alpha Sany said during a video message provided by the BCB.

‘He will not be available for the rest of the series. Recovery from such injuries usually require about three to four weeks. He will be assessed further in the coming days and will be put on a rehab plan.’

Muzadded also informed that there were injury concerns to batsman Mushfiqur Rahim and pacer Shoriful Islam as well but the physio was hopeful that the duo would recover.

‘Mushfiqur bhai also suffered an injury to his thumb while batting today but it doesn’t appear to be something big at the moment so we’re hoping we will get him in the next match. Shoriful was feeling some numbness after the initial injury but hopefully we will be able to give some good news regarding his injury tomorrow, he added.
