Dhaka University students on Sunday went on demonstration on the campus demanding that the university authorities should issue certificates in different colours and contents to the students from seven colleges affiliated with the university.

The DU students staged demonstration on the campus demanding cancellation of the affiliation of seven colleges with the university.

The students boycotted classes and examinations and padlocked academic and administrative buildings.

They also blocked traffic movement on major roads went through the university.

They also brought out processions to press their demand.

The protesters also demanded automation of the university’s administrative and academic activities; traffic control measures on the campus; and fixing rickshaw fares.

They complained that though the university had limited capacity to ensure all facility to its regular students they did not find any justification for affiliating the colleges, particularly as the situation worsened after the affiliation.

The protester vowed to continue the movement if the authority did not pay heed to their movement.

Talking to reporters on Sunday afternoon at vice-chancellor lounge, Muhammad Samad, pro‑vice-chancellor (admin) urged the protesting students to go back to classrooms saying that they also had supports with protester’s logical demands.

Muhammad Samad also said that the affiliation of the colleges was carried out according to a government decision, so they could solve the crisis and further discussion in this regard would be held after vice-chancellor coming back in the country as he now staying in China.

Meanwhile, students from the seven colleges affiliated to the Dhaka University several times blocked the New Market crossing in protest against poor evaluation of their exam papers by Dhaka University examiners.

On February 17, 2017, the government asked Dhaka College, Eden Girls’ College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, Begum Badrunnesa Government Women’s College, Mirpur Government Bangla College and Government Titumir College to get affiliated with Dhaka University.
