Killing of lecturer: Teachers of all edu instts in Savar take to street, give memorandum to UNO

All educational institutions in Savar are closed as teachers have taken to the street in protest against killing of a college lecturer by an unruly student.

Teachers and students of the district are continuing demonstrations to press home their six-point demand.

Teachers of KG schools to colleges have been united under a common banner to protest the killing and demand exemplary punishment to the culprit.

 

They will submit a memorandum to the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) in Savar on 10:30am.

Brutal killing of teacher by student has triggered a demand for intensifying security in and around educational institutions, evicting drug peddlers and eve-teasers from the areas of schools and colleges and compensation to the family of the murdered lecturer.

Meanwhile, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Ashraful Ahsan Zitu who allegedly killed his teacher at Ashulia on the outskirts of the capital.

A team of the elite force arrested Zitu, a tenth grader, from Shreepur in Gazipur on Wednesday evening.

Ashraful Ahsan Zitu, a student of Haji Yunus Ali School and College, attacked Utpal Kumar Sarker, a lecturer of political science in the institution, leaving him seriously injured, on Saturday.

Utpal succumbed to his injuries at Savar’s Enam Medical College Hospital on Monday morning.

 

Yesterday, police arrested Jutu’s father from Kumarkhali of Kushtia in connection with the case.

A Dhaka court placed his father on remand for five days.

RAB officials will hold a press briefing at headquarters today to give further details of Jitu and killing.
