At least 641 people were killed and 1,364 others were injured in 528 road accidents across the country in May, Road Safety Foundation said on Monday.

Of the deceased, 84 were women and 97 children.

Road Safety Foundation collected the data based on reports published in nine national dailies, five online news portals and electronic media.

Beside, at least 4 people were killed and two went missing in 7 waterways accidents, while 17 were killed and three injured in thirteen train accidents.

According to the report, a total of 279 people were killed in 247 motorcycle accidents in May. Some 119 pedestrians were killed while 91 drivers and their assistants were killed during this period.

According to the report, the highest number of accidents and deaths occurred in Dhaka division that 159 people were killed in 127 accidents. At least 23 people were killed in 22 accidents in Sylhet division. As a single district, Dhaka district has the highest number of accidents and deaths that 37 killed in 32 accidents. The lowest number of accidents and deaths occurred in Jhalakati district where two people were injured in three accidents and no casualties were reported.
