Bangabandhu is considered as a hero in India too, says Indian Minister

State Minister for External Affairs of India Raj Kumar Ranjan Singh has said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman is not only the great hero of the independence of Bangladesh but he is considered as a hero in India.

He made the remarks while speaking at a reception hosted by Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Monday evening (Mar 28) to mark the 51st Independence Day of Bangladesh.

Ranjan Kumar Singh said the economic progress, peace and stability in Bangladesh is not securing the interest of the people of Bangladesh, it is also playing important role in developing the North-eastern region of India.

 

High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Muhammad Imran, State Minister for Ministry of External Affairs in India Raj Kumar Ranjan Singh and another Indian State Minister Meenakshi Lekhi are seen cutting a cake on March 28.

The Indian State Minister mentioned that the relationship between India-Bangladesh is passing golden chapter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ram Nath Kovid have visited Bangladesh last year to celebrate birth centenary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and to mark the Golden Jubilee Independence of Bangladesh respectively.

“India-Bangladesh is no other, we share unique bond and history, culture and people to people contact,” he said adding “we are proud to be partners in Bangladeshis stellar economic progress. Bangladesh is the largest development partner for India.”

Earlier, the High Commissioner of Bangladesh to India Muhammad Imran and his wife Mrs. Zakia Hasnat Imran welcomed the guests, said a press release of the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Tuesday (Mar 29).

In his speech the High Commissioner said, over the last decade the relation between Bangladesh-India has reached a golden chapter having a comprehensive partnership covering all possible area of cooperation under the leadership of our able Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He said, the 9 months war of Liberation of Bangladesh in 1971, not only ravaged the economy but also completely destroyed the physical infrastructure of the country. Bangabandhu is only the leader, who reformed and rebuild the country with his farsightness and dynamic leadership during his three and half year regime.

The High commissioner said, in the recent year Bangladesh-India have been working together to reestablish the old connectivity and to open new routes to connect the distant areas of India through Bangladesh.

People to people contact between Bangladesh and India has increased manifold due to better connectivity and flexibility in visa regime of both sides, he added.

The Bangladesh envoy recalled with deep gratitude the contribution of the people of Government of India for their moral and material support during the liberation war and difficult days.

At the beginning of the programme, the Band of Bangladesh Air Force played the melody of the national anthem of musical instrument on the occasion of the Independence Day, the Mission also cut cake and organized a cultural programme.

The reception followed by dinner was attended by minimum 150 diplomats including High Commissioner and Ambassadors of different countries, military attaches, high government officials, war veterans, elites, journalists’ academics and friends of Bangladesh.

The chancery and the Bangladesh House, residence of the High Commissioner were illuminated.
