Shitalakkhya launch tragedy: 2 more bodies recovered, death toll now 10

Three more bodies, who went missing as a launch with around 70 passengers capsized in Shitalakkhya river after it was hit by another cargo ship in Narayanganj on Sunday afternoon, were recovered on Tuesday morning.

With this, the death toll in the incident hits 10 now.

Among them, the body of Abdullah Al Jaber (30), a resident of Demra, was recovered in front of Muktarpur Shah Cement Factory while 3-year-old minor Arohi from Bandar Haripur Power Plant at 9:00am.

 

Narayanganj Sadar Naval Police Station Sub-inspector (SI) Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.

The launch of ‘ML Ashraf Uddin’ heading towards Munshiganj from Narayanganj Central Terminal Ghat capsized in the river after it was hit by the ship named ‘Ruposhi 9’ near the bridge of Alamin Nagar in Char Syedpur at 2:30pm.

He said some 15 to 20 passengers had been able to swim ashore but the rest remained missing.
