India registered 44,877 new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in last 24 hours, taking the daily positivity rate marginally down to 3.17 per cent, the Union health ministry bulletin showed on Sunday morning. A total of 684 people succumbed to the viral infection in the span of one day, taking the death toll to 5,08,665.

The cumulative total infecrions in the country now stands at 42,631,421, while the active caseload is currently at 5,37,045. The active cases at present account for 1.26 per cent of the total cases.

The number of positive cases recorded today are 11 per cent less than yesterday, when the count topped up by 45,486 new infections. The weekly positivity rate was recorded at 4.46 per cent, the health ministry data showed.

As many as 1,17,591 people were discharged in the last 24 hours, increasing the recoveries to 4,15,85,711. The recovery rate now stands at 97.55 per cent.

India’s daily Covid-19 tally remained under the 50,000 mark for the second day in a row after a gap of more than 40 days.

The ministry data further showed that a total of 750 million tests have been conducted so far, including 14,15,279 tests in the last 24 hours.

A total of 49,16,801 vaccine doses were administered across the country in the past one day. This included 3,32,764 booster shots and 16,65,792 vaccines in the 15-18 age group.

A cumulative total of 1.72 billion vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
