Police arrested mason-cum-contractor of the under-construction house of former Dhaka University Professor Saida Khalek in connection with her murder.

Anwarul Islam, 25, has confessed to killing Prof Saida Khalek at one stage of scuffle to snatch away her money.

“Anwarul saw money in the hand of Professor Saida. He was tempted to take away the money. She resisted, shouted and was strangled,” police said.

Police recovered body of ex-Professor of Dhaka University from Gazipur on Friday morning, two days after she went missing.

Deceased Saida Khalek was a retired professor of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Science of University of Dhaka.

Mahbub-e-Khoda, Officer in-Charge of Kashimpur Police Station, claimed to have recovered body of Saida from around 200-yard aloof from her rented house in Kashimpur’s Panishail area. She was residing in a nearby rented house to look after construction of her house.
