Bangladesh’s Omicron cases rise to 7

Shawdesh Desk:

Bangladesh recorded three more cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19, pushing its tally in the country to 7.

The new data was released from Germany in the Global Initiative on Sharing All Influenza Data (GISAID), an international database organisation for the virus.

According to the GISAID website, all three are residents of Dhaka’s Banani. Those affected are a 30-year-old woman, a 47-year-old woman and an 84-year-old man.

The government’s Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research collected their samples on Dec 23.

GISAID previously reported identifying another man who had contracted the omicron variant on Tuesday.

The country first reported the Omicron variant on December 11 after two Bangladesh women cricketers, who were infected by the variant, returned from Zimbabwe.
