Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayum dies

Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayum, the Biman Bangladesh Airlines pilot who suffered cardiac arrest mid-air on Friday, died at a hospital of India on Monday morning. He was 44.

He breathed his last at Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Nagpur’s Kingsway Hospital while undergoing treatment.

Earlier, doctors at Kingsway Hospital in Nagpur removed his life support at 10.45am.

 

Mahbubur Rahman, president of Bangladesh Pilot Association, confirmed the news.

“A preparation is underway to bring his body back to Dhaka,” said Mahbubur Rahman.

On August 27, Biman Bangladesh Airlines scheduled flight BG022 on the Muscat-Dhaka route with a total of 124 passengers on board landed at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India due to the sudden physical illness of its pilot Captain Nowshad Ataul Qayum.

The pilot was later admitted to a hospital in Nagpur for treatment.
