Construction of Padma multipurpose bridge gained milestone after installation of the last roadway slab for vehicular movement on Monday.

Local and foreign engineers successfully installed a roadway slab between 12th and 13th piers, project officials informed.

With the installation of the two-metre wide and 22-metre long slab, the work of constructing a four-lane road on the 6.15km under-construction bridge ended.

The first slab was installed on March 19 in 2019 while the installation of railway slab started from September 2018.

The engineers of China Major Bridge Engineering Company (MBEC), the contractor of the bridge, and local engineers managed to install the slab in the morning without any hassle.

A total of 2,917 such slabs were installed on the bridge.
