Sinha murder: Recording of witness statements begins

Shawdesh desk:

A Cox’s Bazar court has started recording statements of witnesses in a case over the murder of retired army major Sinha Md Rashed Khan.

The court of District and Sessions Judge Mohammad Ismail started the recording on Monday morning after the proceedings were halted since July due to the countrywide Covid-19 lockdown.

Monday’s trial proceedings began with the deposition of plaintiff Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, the slain army officer’s sister.

Fifteen of the 83 witnesses have been summoned to the Cox’s Bazar District and Sessions Judge’s Court.

On July 31 last year, Sinha was shot dead at the Shamlapur police check-post in Baharchhara union of Cox’s Bazar while returning to town after filming for a documentary.

On August 5, Sinha’s sister, Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, filed a case with Teknaf Senior Judicial Magistrate Court accusing nine members of law enforcement agencies of being involved in the killing, including Pradeep Kumar Das and Baharchhara police outpost inspector Liakat Ali.
