Rohingya man killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A Rohingya man was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as Nuru Mia, 40, son of late Bashar, hailing from Jadimura  Rohingya camp.

Being informed that a internal gun battle was taking place between some robbers , a team of RAB conducted a drive at the area, said ASP Biman Chandra Karmakar, Media Officer of Teknaf RAB-15 in CPC-1.

 

Sensing presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence that triggered a gunfight.

After the gunfight, the law enforcers recovered bullet-hit Nuru from the spot and sent to Teknaf Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead.

RAB claimed that two members of the RAB were also injured in the gunfight.

The RAB members recovered a foreign pistol, two rounds of ammunition, three one-shooter guns and two fresh cartridges from the spot.

Hafizur Rahman , Officer-in-charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station, Nur was accused in several robbery cases filed with the police station.
