The government has empowered local administration, civil surgeon and local representative to slap lockdown in any part or whole district which is worst affected with Covid-19.

Cabinet Secretary Khandakar Anwarul Islam confirmed the development while briefing journalists about outcome of the weekly Cabinet meeting on Monday.

The power decentralisation is applicable especially to seven bordering districts which are susceptible to fatal Indian variant of Covid-19 causing more infection and deaths.

The government has instructed the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to arrange treatment to critically ill coronavirus-infected patients, he added.

Anwarul Islam further said DGHS will have to send the patients to nearby medical college hospitals in case of oxygen support.
