Khaleda Zia’s overseas treatment plea likely to be decided by law ministry today

The Law Ministry is likely to pass today its opinion on the application filed by brother of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia seeking permission for her treatment abroad.

Talking to journalists, Law Minister Anisul Huq indicated that his ministry may dispose off the application today.

Aged 75, Khaleda tested positive for Covid-19. After treatment, she recovered but is suffering from post-corona complications coupled with other longstanding ailments.

 

She got admitted to Evercare Hospital in the Bashundhara residential area of Dhaka for serious breathing problem.

Doctors of the hospital formed a medical board to evaluate her health condition.

They suggested her overseas treatment for having no sign of improvement.

Khaleda Zia, who is convicted in two graft cases and released on executive order of the government, needs further administrative clearance for going abroad.

On May 4, Shamim Iskandar, younger brother of Khaleda Zia, handed an application to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal seeking permission to send her abroad.

The home ministry sent the application to the law ministry for vetting.

 

Home minister told journalists that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is very much compassionate and sure to consider the matter on humanitarian ground.

Law Minister Anisul Huq at a press briefing at his residence said the application will be dealt with legally.

Family members of Khaleda Zia claimed to have got verbal permission from the government but they are waiting for formal order.
