I often suffered from cold, sore throat and ear infections in my school life. Then I thought when I will grow up, I will become a doctor to serve people in nose, ear and throat domains. After my enrollment in a medical college in 1982, my mother suffered from a heart disease and cataracts.

At the time, ophthalmologists were reluctant to conduct operation on my mother’s eyes because of poor quality heart treatment. My mother died when I was a fifth-year student at a medical college. Then I decided to become an eye doctor.

Since becoming an ophthalmologist in January 1983, I have been working to build an eye hospital for the mass people. That was my dream. Honorable Chairman of Bashundhara Group Ahmed Akbar Sobhan helped me to fulfil my dream. The bighearted man like him is rare in the world. With his help, the construction of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute was completed by December 2013.

We have visited many eye hospitals at home and abroad for the construction of this hospital under the joint initiative of Bashundhara Group and Vision Care Foundation.

I have observed the infrastructure of a modern eye hospital and its functional aspects. We can mention that our hospital and operation theatre is equivalent to that of any eye hospital in the world.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital is the only medical service provider in eye treatment comprising Operation Theatre equipped with Outer Zone, Inner Zone, Aseptic Zone and Disposal Bay Zone.

The Aseptic Eye Theatre and septic theatre are fully isolated. The aseptic operation theatre can control 40 to 50 percent relative humidity and temperature.

In the operation theatre, the infection-free atmosphere can be maintained through special air conditioners. Besides this, pure air can be introduced by removing all the polluted air.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan has financed and has been providing technical support every month from the beginning to run the very expensive process.

Ahmed Akbar Sobhan inaugurated the hospital on December 5, 2014. The construction work began with the prayers of late Mufti Abdur Rahman (Rahmatullahi Alaihi). Our hospital is the only eye hospital in the country, where free treatment as well as the same quality treatment is provided for the able-bodied.

Bashundhara Eye Hospital is the only one hospital in the country where the physicians offer charitable services apart from affordable services for capable ones.

The institute runs Shariah-based Zakat fund for Muslims and other type of charitable funds for people from other religions.

The hospital has served 10,500 patients at free of cost, organising eye camps in different parts of the country. Besides, 1,09,994 people received inpatient services at the well-equipped hospital in Bashundhara Residential Area in the capital.
