A Narayangnaj court sentenced two men to death and nine others to life term imprisonment in a case filed for killing four labourers in Fatullah upazila of Narayanganj in 2008.

Judge of Additional District and Sessions Judge Court Sabina Yasmin handed down the verdict in presence of the nine accused on Sunday afternoon.

The death row convict are Tajul Islam and Mohi Fider while life awardees are Chan Mia, Dulal Mia, Majidur, Shafiqul, Abdul Manna, Arif, Jalil, Saiful Islam, and Ibrahim.

Additional Public Prosecutor of the court KM Fazlur Rahman said that the accused brought stones from Sylhet on a bulkhead named Shahparan and unloaded those at a cement factory in Munshiganj on September 19, 2008. Then, they anchored the bulkhead at Fatullah Boktabali Char as its engine went out of order.

From there, Nasir Mia, Mangal, Faisal and Hannan went missing. Later on September 21, the bodies of Mangal and Nasir were found in the Meghna Char with their hands and feet tied. The bodies of two others are still traceless.

A case was filed with Fatulla Model Police Station over the incident.
