Humayun Faridee’s 9th death anniversary being observed

The ninth death anniversary of iconic Bangladeshi actor Humayun Faridee is being observed on Saturday.

The Ekushey Padak winning legendary artiste breathed his last on February 13, 2012, in Dhaka at the age of 59.

Several TV channels are airing programmes on his life and works of the noted performer of TV dramas, movies and theatre, to commemorate his death anniversary.

 

Born Humayun Kamrul Islam on May 29, 1952, at Narinda in Old Dhaka, Faridee began his acting career in theatre during his days at Jahangirnagar University where he studied Economics.

He later joined renowned troupe Dhaka Theatre and performed in many of its popular shows — Shakuntala, Kittankhola, and Kermat Mangal to name a few.

Faridee’s journey in television began with Nikhoj Sangbad (1980) and continued with noteworthy performances in Shongshoptok, Nil Nakshar Shandhany, Durbin Diye Dekhun, Bhangoner Shobdo Shuni, Bokulpur Koto Dur, Dui Bhuboner Dui Bashinda and many more.

As a versatile actor across mediums, Faridee debuted in Dhallywood with the film Santrash (1990) and continued mesmerising the audience with a total of 56 flicks in his over two decades acting career.

From 1984 till 2008, he was married to popular Bangladeshi actress and current Member of Parliament Suborna Mustafa.

Faridee won the Bangladesh National Film Award for best actor for his lead role in the film Matritto (2004). He was awarded Ekushey Padak posthumously in 2018.
