SI, constable arrested for mugging driver in Ctg

Two policemen of Sitakunda Model Police Station were arrested on charge of mugging Tk 2.80 lakh from a driver at Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram on Thursday night.

They allegedly mugged the pickup van driver introducing themselves as “members of the Detective Branch”.

The arrestees are Sub-inspector Saiful Alam and Constable Md Saiful Islam.

Earlier, the authorities formed a two member-probe committee headed by Additional Superintendent of Police of Sitakunda Circle to investigate the incident.

Confirming the news, Chattogram district’s Superintendent of Police SM Rashidul Haque said the probe committee was asked to submit its findings within seven working days.

Police and local sources said the incident took place on December 20 but the incident came to light after victim Md Abu Jafor filed a case accusing five including the two policemen and three informants with Sitakunda police station on Thursday.
