Suspected drug peddler killed in Cox’s Bazar ‘gunfight’

A suspected drug peddler was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Teknaf upazila of Cox’s Bazar early Sunday.

The deceased was identified as Syed Alam, 35, son of Syed Ahmmed, hailing from the area.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of law enforcers conducted a drive in the area, said Lt. Colonel Mohammad Faisal Hasan Khan, captain of BGB in Teknaf-2.

Sensing the presence of elite force, the criminals opened fire on law enforcers, forcing them to take action in self defence, he said.

After the gunfight, the drug dealers fled and police recovered the bullet hit body of Alam.

Later, they sent Alma to the Upazila Health Complex where duty doctor declared him dead, he added adding that the law enforcers recovered 40 thousand pieces of Yaba pills, a locally made made arm and a cartridge from the spot.

He was accused in multiple drug cases with several police staions, Faisal Hasan said.
