Dr. Ferdaus Hasan, (Maryland,USA) – A new professional organization named International Society of Bangladesh-affiliated Microbiologists (ISBM) was launched on May 22, 2020 at a meeting at Maryland, USA. The organization aims to bring all microbiologists of Bangladeshi origin living anywhere in the world.

Standing strong on the five key values namely “Accountability”, “Collaboration”, “Quality”, “Respect”, and “Transparency”, ISBM is a voluntary and nonprofit professional organization that will be open to any Bangladeshi microbiologists. The members of convening committee of ISBM, hailed from a variety of academic, industrial, and government administration, will work and assist in communication, training, mentoring and development of professional resources (such as providing funds to attend scientific conventions in North America), and programs for microbiology students in Bangladesh, North America, and other parts of the World. Furthermore, ISBM will serve as a strong platform to provide effective communication between American Society of Microbiology (ASM) and other international associations for the dissemination of scientific knowledge. ISBM will strive to keep the audience updated about the cutting-edge research and latest technology pertaining to Microbiology and related science through valuable interactions, namely scientific workshop and seminars. ISBM promises to invest on the aforementioned programs with members and affiliations in order to gain exposure from the scientific world outside.

In the midst of unforeseen circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic, we felt an urgent need to amalgamate innovative thoughts and ideas from Bangladeshi microbiologists and related science professionals by building a platform for communication. As a creative professional organization, ISBM is confident that all members and participants will learn from each other and develop collaboration to drive innovation for advancing science and benefit our beloved motherland and mankind, especially during devastating situation propelled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
