BGMEA seeks transport support from BRTC for bringing workers

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on Thursday sought transport support from BRTC for bringing its workers so that they can come to their respective factories for collecting salaries.

BGMEA seeks transport support from BRTC for bringing workersIn a letter submitted to the Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), BGMEA president Rubana Huq said RMG workers from different parts of the country cannot draw their salary for the month of March due to a nationwide shutdown.

According to the letter, Readymade Garment Factory owners are paying salaries to their workers for the month of March but most of the workers have been staying at their home village outside of Dhaka. So, they plan to pay their salaries on April 20 (Monday).The BGMEA boss also mentioned the name of stations—Mymensingh, Manikganj, Sirajganj, Pabna, Bagura, Rangpur—from where RMG workers to be brought to Dhaka, Gazipur, Ashulia, Savar and asked BRTC to extend its support so that workers can come to Dhaka safely.

Rubana Huq also mentioned that the government gave nod to open garment factories having urgent export order from April 26 under the condition of ensuring the safety of their workers’ health.
