At least twelve illegal poppy fields were destroyed in Bandarban on Tuesday.
The drive was conducted by joint forces of the army, the military intelligence agency, and police.
Confirming the news, Md Ashikur Rahman, captain of Bagalake Army Camp, said during the drive, poppy fields on around 10 acre were destroyed in twelve separate places in Uttar-purbo Shaikat Para and Khulian Khumi Para areas.
However, no arrests were made during the drive. The drug dealers fled the area before the law enforcers arrival, he said.
A group of drug dealers cultivate poppy to produce heroin and opium, Ashikur Rahman said.
Lt Colonel Mohammad Golam Akbar, commander of Ruma Zone, confirmed the matter.
