More train trips to Kolkata from this month: Sujan

Shawdesh desk: Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Wednesday said that Bangladesh Railway is increasing the number of train trips to neighbouring India from this month onward.

Sujan came up with the new train schedule between Bangladesh and India during a press briefing at the Railway Bhaban in Dhaka this morning.

According to the new schedule, Maitree Express will run five days a week instead of its usual four from February 11 on the Dhaka-Kolkata route.
Maitree Express currently operates on Saturdays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Owing to the increased trips, the train service will also be available on Tuesdays from the 11th of this month.

Meanwhile, on the Khulna-Kolkata route, Badhan Express will operate two days instead of one. The train service will also be available on Sundays, in addition to Thursdays from February 16, the minister said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Indian embassy in Bangladesh also issued a press release where it said that to enhance people to people contacts, it has been decided to increase the frequency of two passenger trains– Maitree Express and Bandhan Express.
