2nd National Campus Theatre Festival at Shilpakala Academy

Shawdesh Desk: The 2nd National Campus Theatre Festival 2020 got underway at the National Music and Dance Centre of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) on Friday.

Government Bangla College-based theatre troupe Bangla College Juba Theatre organized the festival, in association with Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and People’s Theatre Association.

A total of sixteen theatre troupes from different universities and colleges are participating at the festival, staging captivating performances through their plays.
The festival was inaugurated by BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky. Principal of the Government Bangla College Professor Dr Ferdousi Khan and Vice Principal Professor Md Jahangir Hossain also joined the inaugural ceremony.

Bangla College Juba Theatre President and Bangla department head at the Government Bangla College, Abul Khair, convener of the festival and chief trainer of Bangla College Juba Theatre Habib Tarashi, and former president of the troupe Kamal Uddin Shamim were also present at the inauguration.

Voluntary Blood Donors’ Organization BADHAN, which works with students from different campuses in the country, organized a free blood-testing camp at the venue where the audience and attendees at the festival can get their blood group be checked without any cost. The camp is organized by BADHAN Bangla College Paribar and will continue till the festival ends.

On the inaugural day, Manipuri band Mingal and artistes of IUB Dance Club performed and four troupes staged plays including the presentation of Bangla College Juba Theatre titled ‘Mujib Maney Mukti’, Jashore-based M M College Theatre (Bibartan) staged ‘Bonkabya’, Rajbari College Theatre staged ‘Ebong Ekti Phool’ and Jahangirnagar University-based troupe Shuneya staged ‘Manush’.

Performers of Drama and Dramatics department of Jahangirnagar University, Jatiya Kabi Kazi Nazrul Islam University, Bangladesh Institute of Information Technology (BIIT) Bogura and Notre Dame College, Dhaka staged plays on Saturday.

The ongoing festival is scheduled to conclude on January 27.
