Shawdesh Desk: General Qassem Soleimani will be buried at Golzar Shohada (Garden of Martyrs) Cemetery in his hometown Kerman of Iran on Tuesday.

Huge crowds packed the streets of the Iranian capital Tehran for the funeral of the slain Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani.
The body of Revolutionary Guard Gen Qassem Soleimani arrived in Iran on Sunday.

His funeral ceremony was held at Tehran University on Sunday morning.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei had on many occasions praised Soleimani and has vowed “harsh vengeance” for the US airstrike that killed him.

Soleimani was killed early Friday local time in Baghdad by a US drone strike, after warnings to Iran by US President Donald trump and other officials to cease “orchestrating” attacks on US interests.

Soleimani, 62, was headed Iran’s elite Quds Force, and tasked with protecting and boosting Iran’s influence in the Middle East.

The Pentagon took responsibility for the attack and said in a statement that it had taken decisive action to protect US personnel abroad by killing Qassem Soleimani at the direction of President Donald Trump.
