Shawdesh Desk: A woman gave birth to a baby girl under the stair of Sheikh Fazilatunnessa Mujib General Hospital in Sirajganj on Sunday night after allegedly being denied services at the hospital by the duty doctors.

The victim was identified as Mariam Begum, 22, wife of Shahin Alam of Khas Satbaria village under Beltail Union of Shahjadpur in the upazila.

Umme Ayesha, the victim’s relative, said Mariam was admitted at the Guinea Division of the hospital on Sunday morning. She took shelter to the floor after failing to manage any seat. Doctor came at night and suggested to take caesarean operation. We took necessary preparation for the operation according to the suggestion of doctor. Doctor took her to the operation theatre but denied to carry the operation on the pretext of complications.”
Mother Mariam said, “The doctors did not try to assist her in delivery. I walked down to stairs with bearing pains. Then I lay down on the floor and gave birth to a baby girl with the help of my relative Karimunnesa.”

Earlier on December 1, a woman named Rahima also gave birth to a baby at the main entrance of the hospital after allegedly being denied services by the duty doctor.
