So-called Jubo League (JL) leader SM Golam Kibria Shamim on Sunday was taken to ACC headquarters at Segunbagicha in the city for interrogation in two separate cases filed on charge of accumulating illegal wealth.

Earlier at noon, a team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) went to Keraniganj Central Jail to bring SM Golam Kibria Shamim alias GK Shamim, a controversial government-listed contractor.

ACC sources told media that expelled JL leader Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan would also be brought to its headquarters for grilling.

Two team of the ACC have already gone to Kashimpur Central Jail in Gazipur to bring Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan, expelled organising secretary of JL’s Dhaka south city unit, sources said.

On October 21, the ACC filed two separate cases against GK Shamim and Khalid Mahmud Bhuiyan on charge of accumulating illegal wealth.

A Dhaka court placed them on a 7-day remand each in the same cases on October 27.

GK Shamim is also facing three more cases filed by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB)—one under the Narcotics Control Act, another under the Money Laundering Prevention Act and the other under the Arms Act.

Shamim, known as an influential contractor of Sabujbagh, Basabo and Motijheel areas, was arrested during a drive at his Niketan office on September 20 with illegal firearms, foreign liquor and a huge amount of money.

Meanwhile, Khalid is facing two more cases — one under the Arms Act and another under the Narcotics Control Act.

Khalid, also president of Fakirapool Youngmen’s Club, was arrested from Gulshan on September 18 by the elite force for running illegal casino in the club.

Three firearms — one of them illegal — along with bullets, and Yaba pills were seized from him.
