Saudi Arabia deports more 153 Bangladeshis

Saudi Arabian authorities sent back 153 more migrant workers to Bangladesh on Wednesday night– as part of a crackdown on undocumented workers in the kingdom.

Confirming the news, Shariful Hasan, programme head of Brac Migration Programme, said a Saudi Airlines flight SV-804 carrying them landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport around 11:20pm last night.

The authorities concerned of Wage Earners Welfare Board with the help of the Brac Migration Programme provided necessary assistance, including food, to the Bangladeshi workers following their arrival, he said.The KSA authorities have arrested around 3.8million foreigners, as it continues a crackdown on labor and residency violators, according to a report by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).

The country has been detaining people for violating residential, labour and border security regulations since November 2017.

A total of 3,790,173 people have been arrested, including over 2.95 million for residency violations, 583,602 for breaking labour laws, and 247,220 for flouting border regulations, the report said.

The latest figures indicate that 544,521 foreigners have been arrested since early June. A total 940,100 expatriates have been deported since November 2017, the report said.
