Shawdesh Desk:
The health condition of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia, now undergoing treatment at the BSMMU, is stable with significant improvement in some cases, the hospital’s director Brig Gen Dr AK Mahbubul Hoque said.
Mahbubul Hoque came up with the update regarding the health condition of former Prime Minister at a press conference, held at Shaheed Dr Milton Hall of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) on Monday noon.
The comment of the BSMMU authorities came one day after Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir claimed that Khaleda Zia’s health condition was very critical.
On Sunday, Fakhrul also expressed his concern that Khaleda Zia might not recover.
The BSMMU director Mahbubul Hoque said, “Khaleda Zia was suffering from multiple complications including uncontrolled diabetics, severe hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis when she was admitted to the BSMMU. Therefore, the hospital authorities established a medical board for her proper treatment. Her health condition is being monitored every now and then.”
Claiming the gradual progress of Khaleda Zia’s health, he said, “In some cases, her health condition is improving and she is receiving better treatment here.”
However, BNP has been claiming that Khaleda Zia is not getting proper treatment at BSMMU.
The BNP chairperson has been in jail since a special court convicted her in Zia Orphanage Trust graft case on February 8 last year.
Amid BNP leaders’ demand for admitting Khaleda to a specialised hospital, she was shifted to the BSMMU from jail on April 1 as her health condition deteriorated and she was kept at the hospital since then.
