The Rapid Action Battalion has arrested a suspect from Bagerhat over seven people’s death in a brutal attack on MV Al-Bakhera, a vessel carrying fertiliser in the River Meghna in Chandpur.

RAB-11 arrested Akash Mondal Irfan conducting a raid in Bagerhat’s Chitalmari area, the elite force said in a statement sent to the media on Wednesday morning.

RAB force will brief the media about the arrest in the afternoon.

Earlier on Monday afternoon, members of Bangladesh Coast Guard and River police recovered five bodies and rescued three injured victims from the vessel. Later, two of the injured died from their injuries at the hospital, police said.

One of the owners of MV Al-Bakhera, Mahbub Murshed filed a case against unidentified persons with Haimchar police station at about 11:00pm on Tuesday.
