Though the Dhaka International Trade Fair (DITF) – 2024 was supposed to start on the first day of the New Year, the government is planning to defer it to the third week of January due to the 12th national election scheduled for January 7.
A meeting was held on the arrangement of the DITF at the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) on December 18 that discussed the potential and planning for its success.
The meeting also discussed various problems, including challenges related to the gathering of buyers and the involvement of traders in the fair before the elections.
The participants of the meeting decided to kick off the fair any day in the third week of January. However, the date will be fixed based on the post-poll situation.
EPB Assistant Director Md Abdul Halim informed reporters that the fair will not take place on January 1 due to the national election. He further clarified that the specific date for the fair is yet to be finalized.
There will be premium pavilions, premium mini pavilions, reserved pavilions for women, foreign pavilions, general pavilions and food stalls at the fair venue.
In the last fair, the minimum rent for the Premier Pavilion floor was Tk 20 lakh, but the rent for the next fair has been fixed at Tk 22 lakh.
Similarly, the stall rent has been increased from a minimum of Tk 3.50 lakh to Tk4 lakh for general stalls and Tk4.50 lakh for reserved stalls.
