The Bangladesh Election Commission on Wednesday requested the chief justice to keep designated lower court judges out of the subordinate Courts’ annual vacation purview in December.

The EC made the request to the CJ for the purpose of conducting inquiries into violation of electrical code of conduct by the candidates of the upcoming general election.

The chief election commissioner, Kazi Habibul Awal, made the request while the CEC with four other commissioners made a courtesy call on the newly appointed chief justice Obaidul Hassan at the latter’s office at the Supreme Court area in Dhaka in the afternoon, according to the CEC’  briefing to the media.

The CEC, during his briefing, also hinted that the next general election would be held in January 2024.

Four other EC members include Begum Rashida Sultana, Brigadier General (Retd) Ahsan Habib Khan and former senior secretaries Md Alamgir and Anisur Rahman.

Election Commission’ Secretariat legal affairs wing’ joint secretary (law) Md Mahbuber Rahman Sarker was present during the meeting.
