Presence of the students in different educational institutions in the capital was low on Sunday during the countrywide dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party.

Many students left schools early, said the authorities of different schools.

Guardians were also expressed their concern over safety of their children while going to the educational institutions.

Earlier the BNP called the strike protesting at attacks on its Saturday grand rally at Naya Paltan in Dhaka.

On Sunday morning it was seen that classes were taking places in different educational institutions in Dhanmondi, Hatirpool, Moghbazar, Bailey Road, Motijheel and Shahjahanpur areas.

The schools and colleges were reopened on the day after the vacation for the Puja celebrations.

Very few students came to Motijheel Colony High School in Motijheel area, said the head teacher Naznin Ferdousi.

‘Daughter of the policeman, who died yesterday during the class, is studying in Class I of our school, ‘The headmaster said.

She also said that on Saturday a bus was torched in front of the school which also crated panic amongst guardians.

The school teachers held a prayer session for the deceased Aminur Parvej, a police constable and then some teachers took part in his Namaz e Janaza at Razarbagh Police Lines.

At Motijheel Govt Girls High School only two per cent students were present in the morning shift, said the school headmaster Shaela Nasrin.

Thirty per cent students came in Motijheel Govt Primary School on the day, said the teachers.

Students were also seen to participating Classes in Viqarunnisa Noon School and College.

The educational institution principal, (acting) Keka Roy Chowdhury, said that the presence of students was low on the day.

‘If violence on roads continue in the name of politics then obviously it will affect the education sector,’ she added.

Ispahani Girls School and College principal Sadeka Begum also said that the presence of students was low on the day.

Dhanmondi 2 no Girls Govt Primary School headmaster Lavly Suraiya said that around 60 per cent students were present on the day.

Dhanmondi High School head teacher Mohammad Idris Mia also said that around 60 per cent students were present at the school on the day.
