Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) lawmaker Harunur Rashid raised the issue, taking part in a discussion on the proposed budget.
Expressing resentment at the import of the substandard bitumen, he sought Prime Minister’s interference in taking measures against those responsible for importing it through fake certificate.
“Bitumen is very important for roads. But low-quality bitumen is being imported through fake certificate. I’m urging the Prime Minister to look into the matter,” Harun told the House with Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury in the chair.
Leader of the House and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was present in the House at that time.
The BNP MP said reports are being published in newspapers on the issue for the last one month.
“Action must be taken after investigation. Low-quality bitumen is being released from ships through fake certificate. Who are importing such kind of bitumen? Action must be taken against the illegal practice,” he said.
