Awami League MP from Naogaon-3 constituency (Badalgachi-Mahadebpur) Salim Uddin Tarafder tested positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.
Naogaon Civil Surgeon Akhtaruzzaman Alal confirmed the information on Sunday.
Salim Uddin was suffering from fever and cold for last two-three days. Later, the sample of the MP was collected on July 14 and sent to Dhaka for test and the report came out positive on July 17, he said.
He is now undergoing treatment at his resident in the capital.
Including Salim Uddin Tarafder, at least 14 AL lawmakers and their family have so far tested positive.
They are Md Joaherul Islam for Tangail-8 , Khandker Mosharraf Hossain for Faridpur-3, liberation war affairs minister AKM Mozammel Huq for Gazipur-1, Mohammed Nasim for Sirajganj-1, Chittagong Hill Tracts affairs minister Bir Bahadur U Shwe Sing for Bandarban, M Abdus Shahid Maulvibazar-4, Moslem Uddin Ahmed for Chittagong-8, Shahiduzzaman Sarker for Naogaon-2, Mohammad Ebadul Karim for Brahmanbaria-5, Mustafizur Rahman Chowdhury for Chittagong-16, Faridul Hoque Khan Dulal for Jamalpur-2 and Mashrafe Bin Mortaza for Narail-2.
Of them, Mohammed Nasim died after 12 days on June 12 at a city hospital where he was admitted with COVID-19 symptoms and was later tested positive. Besides, at least three former lawmakers died of COVID-19.
Former Awami League lawmaker of the Bogura-Jaipurhat reserved seat for women Kamrun Nahar Putul died on May 22, former AL lawmaker from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur-Dhanmondi constituency Mockbul Hossain died at CMH on May 25 and former state minister for finance and planning and Bangladesh Nationalist Party lawmaker Anwarul Kabir Talukder died at CMH on June 14.
