An Ansar member was shot dead by some unidentified miscreants in Hashimpur Bazar area of Jashore on Sunday morning.

The deceased was identified as Hossain Ali Torafdar, 55, a special member of Ansar Battalion in Dhaka.

Confirming the news, Mainul Haque, superintendent of police (SP) in Jeshore, the victim went to his village home at Hashimpur village for three-day vacation.

He was gossiping with local people at a shop of Hakimpur Bazar after shopping this morning, he said.

“All of a sudden, a group of unknown assailants opened four to five rounds of bullets targeting Hossain, leaving him dead on the spot,” he said.

The assailants, however, fled the scene immediately after the murder, he added.

The reason behind the murder could not be known immediately, he said.
