Today is the 78th birth anniversary of late legendary actor Bulbul Ahmed, who left his mark in several mediums including television, film and theatre.
Bulbul Ahmed, born in 1941, began his acting career as a theatre artiste. He acted in Rabindranath Tagore’s Shesh Rokkha which was staged at MC College campus in Sylhet in 1957. He later joined Drama Circle and performed in plays such as Oedipus and The Arms and the Man.
Bulbul commenced his small screen acting career in 1968.
He also performed in radio plays. He had acted in more than 250 plays for Bangladesh Betar.
Bulbul Ahmed’s first appearance in films was in 1973 when he played a supporting character in Iye Korey Biye. Soon he appeared in a central role in the film Jibon Niye Jua. He earned viewers’ popularity after playing key male role in films like Devdas, Simana Periye, Shurjo Konya, Rupali Shoikotey, Bodhu Bidaay and Bodnaam. He had also directed four movies namely Rajlakkhi Srikanta, Akorshon, Gorom Haowa and Koto Je Apon.
The actor had 50 films to his credit.
He died on July 15 in 2010 at the age of 68 in Dhaka.
