63 more Myanmar troops flee to Bangladesh

A total of 63 more Myanmar troops fled conflicts to bordering Bangladesh alone on Wednesday and sought shelter crossing the international border amid fighting between Myanmar forces and the ethnic rebel group, the Arakan Army.

The Myanmar troops entered Bangladesh at around noon, said a message sent to media by the Border Guard Bangladesh headquarters in Dhaka.

The troops entered Bangladesh with arms through Whaikhong bordering area under Teknaf upazila in Cox’s Bazar, sources in the bordering area said.

The BGB disarmed them and took them to a safe shelter, officials said.

With the latest ones, the total number of escapee troops and officials from Myanmar has risen to 327.

On Tuesday, at least 158 Myanmar troops with arms and ammunition and government officials fled conflicts to bordering Bangladesh alone.

On Monday, BGB confirmed the arrival of 106 Myanmar’s Border Guard Police members.

In a statement during his visit to the Bangladesh-Myanmar border in Cox’s Bazar on Wednesday, the BGB DG underscored the BGB’s commitment to maintaining security and sovereignty while adhering to humanitarian principles and fostering positive international relations.

‘The border situation is fully under control, and we are dedicated to managing it with patience, humanitarian considerations, and in a manner that respects our international obligations, as directed by the Prime Minister. Under no circumstances will illegal entry into Bangladesh be permitted,’ Major General Siddiqui emphasized.
