The last two remaining stations in Shahbagh and Karwan Bazar areas under metro rail services would open for public on December 31, said officials of Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited on Thursday.

The company officials also requested the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on the same day to ban flying lanterns on December 31 and January 1 within a one-kilometre radius of the project, they said.

Within March next year, metro trains on Uttara-Motijheel section would run between 7:00am and 8:30pm every day, except Friday, they added.

Currently metro rails are running on Uttara-Motijheel section between 7:10am and 12:00pm and on Uttara–Agargaon section between 12:00pm and 8:30pm every day except Friday.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina launched country’s first-ever electricity-powered elevated and air-conditioned rail system on 11.73-kilometre-long Uttara–Agargaon section on December 28, 2022 amid huge enthusiasm.

Later, the PM on November 4 inaugurated the service on Motijheel-Uttara section and next day the services on the section were opened for public.
