Railways minister Nurul Islam Sujan on Tuesday said that the fatal fire in a train in Bangladesh capital Dhaka earlier on the day was an act of sabotage and that the main opposition BNP was responsible for this.

The minister, responding to reporters at a press briefing in Dhaka, said that the people who were enforcing different political programmes since October 28 were conducting sabotages on railways.

As a reporter drew the minister’s attention on a statement of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party that claimed that vested quarters were responsible for such acts to divert people’s attention from their current democratic movement, the minister said, ‘they (BNP) cannot confuse people anymore by giving statements.’

He also said that political programmes could be held in a democratic country but they should not be done by committing sabotages.

Replying to another question, the minister said, if someone get on a train as a passenger and conduct the arson attack, it’s very difficult to trace him or her.

Four people, including a woman and her minor son, were killed as a train caught fire Dhaka early Tuesday.
