BNP is determined to hold their rally in front of the party central office in Nayapaltan of the capital.

BNP senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi came up with the statement while addressing a press briefing at the party central office in Nayapaltan of the capital on Thursday noon.

Responding to a question regarding their reply to the letter from Dhaka Metropolitan Police requesting a list of two alternative venues, Rizvi said, “We have clearly told them [DMP] that the only designated venue for the rally on October 28 is in front of the Nayapaltan BNP office, there is no alternative.”

The BNP senior joint secretary general also demanded release of the party leaders and activists within October 28.

He alleged that the police have filed 10 cases and started arresting their leaders and activists ahead of the October 28 rally.

Over 150 leaders and activists were picked up and arrested across the country including in Dhaka from Wednesday night till Thursday noon, he added.

Rizvi alleged that the ruling Awami League is provoking confrontation while the law enforcers are arresting and picking up the opposition men and ransacking their houses.

Earlier, the party sources said in reply to a letter of police, the BNP on Thursday has informed the DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) that they will hold their rally in Nayapaltan of the capital.

BNP mentioned that one lakh to one lakh and twenty thousand people will gather in their rally on October 28.

People of any other political party will not come to their rally, the letter added.

Earlier, the Police administration has asked opposition BNP to propose names of two alternative venues each in case the law enforcers are unable to give permission to hold a rally in Nayapaltan.
Md. Salahuddin Mia, officer-in-charge of Paltan Model Police Station, sent a letter to the opposition, according to the BNP officials at the party’s Nayapaltan office.

In the letter, police asked to know seven types of information including proposing two alternative venues for the rally.

However, police sources said another same letter was also sent to the ruling Awami League asking to propose names of two alternative venues.
