Habibur made DMP commissioner

The government on Wednesday appointed additional inspector general of police Habibur Rahman the new commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

The new appointment at crucial and top police post came months before the national elections. The incumbent DMP commissioner is set to retire on October 1.

 

The Public Security Division of the home ministry in a notification said that the government order would come into effect immediately.

Bangladesh Civil Service 17th batch police cadre officer Habibur is currently holding the position additional inspector general of Tourist Police.

The current DMP chief Khandaker Golam Faruq will retire from government service after completing around a year as DMP commissioner.

Hailed from Gopalganj, Habibur joined government service in February, 1998.

In his police career, Habibur worked as deputy commissioner of DMP, Dhaka district police superintendent, deputy inspector general for administration at police headquarters and DIG for Dhaka Range.

Habibur is known for his philanthropic work on the Bede communities.
