Viral infections caused by the dengue and fatalities may take a serious turn in August and September, said Director of Health and Hope Specialised Hospital Dr Lalin Choudhury.

Talking to a media, he said DGHS conducted a raid to count density of larva of Aedes mosquito across the capital in the beginning of the year. As per the survey, a prediction was given that dengue outbreak will be higher this year than the previous, he told a media in an interview.

“This year, dengue is seen in the secondary forms. People who affected with dengue fever earlier are being infected further. When someone infected by dengue twice or thrice, death risk increases manifold,” he said.

In addition, the trend of the disease has also changed as some people are unable to realise whether it is dengue or not, he said.

As the dengue is not diagnosed within two or three days, the patients delay in going to hospital, he said adding “Having hospitalised in late the patients die of dehydration and bleeding.”

Moreover, Aedes mosquitoes are biting at day and night and breeding in dirty and clean water both, he said.

He said “If we unable to control the ongoing situation, the death rate in the current year will be high.”
