Injured in road mishap, IU central mosque imam dies in Dhaka

Islamic University’s central mosque pesh imam died while undergoing treatment at Kallyanpur Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital in Bangladesh capital Dhaka on Saturday night, four days after he was critically injured in a road accident in Magura on June 6.

The deceased, ASM Shoyeb Ahmad, 46, was the pesh imam cum khatib of the central mosque of Islamic University in Kushtia. He was also a former student of Da’wah and Islamic Studies department of the university.

 

According to IU Officers’ Association general secretary Walid Hasan Mukut, Shoyeb was going to Dhaka from the campus on a Green Line Paribahan on June 6.

The bus, at one stage, hit a roadside tree that left several people including Shoyeb seriously injured. Later, local people rescued the injured from the spot and took them to Magura General Hospital for treatment where the attending doctors referred Shoyeb to Dhaka as his condition deteriorated.

He was later admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Ibn Sina Medical College Hospital in the capital where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday at around 11:30pm, Mukut said.

Shoyeb will be buried at his family graveyard in Brahmanbaria district after Asr prayer on Sunday.

The university authorities, teachers, students, officials and staff of the university expressed profound shock at the death of Shoyeb. They also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
