Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi to stage Rajnaitik Hotta

Binodon Desk:

Bangladesh Udichi Shilpigosthi is going to stage the 12th show of its 16th theatre production titled ‘Rajnaitik Hotta’ after four years at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Tuesday at 6:30pm.

Rajnaitik Hotta, written by French philosopher and playwright Jean-Paul Sartre, has been translated into Bangla by Arpita Ghosh and directed by Ratan Deb. The play was staged in 2018 for the last time.

The play revolves around a fictitious European country named Illythia at the end of the World War II. It depicts the conflicts between the fascist government in power and the nationalist forces and the communist party of that country. The play also shows various internal crises of the communist party.

The group of the party decides to kill one of the main leaders of the party to gain more power. A young party worker is given the responsibility to kill the leader but he becomes attached to that leader due to his respect for him.

However, the young party worker kills the leader in the end. There were personal reasons besides political reasons.

After serving two years in prison for the murder, the young party worker realises that the party is moving forward following the vision of the late leader who was murdered and the play moves forward.

Masumur Rahman will play the character of Hugo while Moumita Zannat will play Jessica, Alamgir Hossen will play Hoederer, Refat Hossain will play George, Aminul Islam Tapon will play Slick, Sharmin Akter Rini will play Olga, Arif Noor will play Louis, Monohar Chandra Das will play Charles, Nazmul Azad will play Karsky, Bijan Roy will play Prince Paul and Aminul Islam Tapon will play the character of Ivan in the play.

‘The play of Jean-Paul Sartre is a timeless play. It shades light on different political crisis. Besides, the play gives the audiences a glimpse into today’s political crisis and fragility,’ Ratan Deb told New Age.
