41.5kg gold seized in Bangladesh-India border foiling largest ever smuggling bid

Border Security Force (BSF) seized 321 gold biscuits, four gold bars and one gold coin weighing 41kg and 491 gram at Bangladesh-India border.

Valued Tk 21.22 crore, the gold items were recovered by the members of the Gunarmath BSF camp at Bangaon of the West Bengal on Thursday.

Besides, one boat and four mobile sets were seized therefrom.

 

Acting on a tip-off, BSF members chased the smugglers on the bank of Ichamati River and foiled the attempt to smuggle huge chunk of gold.

Sources said a group of 7-8 smugglers were seen to enter Indian territory by boat. Being challenged by BSF, they jumped into the river.  They came back to Bangladesh leaving gold and other objects which were ultimately seized by the security forces.

It is the biggest ever attempt to smuggle gold in the border.
